"The idea for Aspire was born out of my fascination with the reedy organ-like sound of the bandoneon and blending it with the versatile sound of the clarinet; two very diverse instruments and musicians coming together to create incredible synergy through music.” - Seunghee Lee
GRAMMY® NOMINATED FOR BEST CLASSICAL COMPENDIUM
ASPIRE is a newest album by clarinetist Seunghee Lee performing pieces by composer and bandoneonist JP Jofre, joined by the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Enrico Fagone. The album’s centerpiece is the world-premiere recording of Jofre’s Double Concerto for Clarinet and Bandoneon, first concerto ever written for this combination, commissioned by and written expressly for Seunghee Lee. Five other original compositions by Jofre round out the program, along with the Aria (Cantilena) from Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 (Arr. Lee) and an orchestral arrangement of Piazzolla’s Tango Etude No. 3, also commissioned from Jofre by Lee.
